Difficulty Level 2

Sigma 3 Survival School is proud to offer our new Flint Knapping Course. In this class we will cover all the basics of flint knapping. We will show you what tools you need, from traditional to modern. We will teach you how to use billets, boppers, pressure flakers, and ishi sticks.

We will cover safety and first aid as it applies to flint knapping. Safety glasses and band aids are a must. Flint knapping can be dangerous. There will be blood, oh yes, there will be blood.

In our Flint Knapping Course, we will cover the conchoidal fracture, which is the key to predictable flaking.  We will teach you the differences between percussion and pressure flaking.  We will teach you about platforms and striking surfaces, and how to make them properly. We will discuss abrading, the most overlooked essential step.

We will also teach you hafting techniques so that you can attach your finished pieces to handles and arrow shafts. We will give you all the knowledge you need to get started on the exciting but addictive path of lithic reduction. Before you know it, you will be creating beautiful blades and points, from arrowheads to stone knives, just like our ancestors did. Sign up now. Class size is limited.
